How to Defeat Kearush the Slayer: Boss Guide (No Shield Strategy)

Stuck on Chapter 5's infamous 'noob killer'? Learn the dodge-forward-right strategy, phase-by-phase breakdown, and the best build to beat Kearush without a shield.
Boss Guide: Kearush the Slayer (Chapter 5)
Kearush the Slayer is the first true wall most players hit in Crimson Desert. Encountered during the "Demenissian Delegation" quest at Hernand Castle, this giant gorilla-like monster is the game's first three-phase boss fight — fast, aggressive, and brutally punishing. The community has earned him the title "新人杀手" (noob killer) for good reason.
Stat Check Warning: If your Health and Endurance are below Level 4, you will get one-shot. Farm side content to hit these thresholds before attempting this fight.
🛡️ Preparation
| Category | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Level | 20+ |
| Health / Endurance | Minimum Level 4 each (Health 600+, Stamina 200+) |
| Weapon | Fire-infused weapon (Kearush is weak to fire) — fire spears/arrows stagger him for longer damage windows |
| Shield | A small round shield if you must block, but dodging is far safer |
| Healing Items | 50–100 Grilled Meat (or soups). You will burn through these. |
| Key Skill | Back Hang (Grappling tree) — lets you latch onto his back for massive damage during recovery windows |
⚔️ Phase-by-Phase Strategy
Phase 1 (Blue Health Bar) — Learn the Rhythm
Kearush opens with simple 3–4 hit combos: punches, ground slams, and the occasional grab.
- Never block — his attacks shred stamina and break through guard in 2 hits.
- Dodge forward-right — this is the single highest-value movement in the fight. Dodging into his attacks (not away) positions you behind him for free damage.
- Attack window: Land 2–3 quick hits after his combo finishes, then retreat. Greed is death.
- After his body slam, there's a brief recovery window — this is your best damage opportunity in Phase 1.
Phase 2 (Green Health Bar) — New Threats
Two devastating attacks enter his rotation:
Wall Jump / Dive Bomb: Kearush clings to a wall, then slams down on your position. Dodge when he leaves the wall (not while he's airborne). After dodging, this is your longest damage window — use Back Hang or heavy attacks.
Immune Combo (Chest Beat): He beats his chest, glows blue (invulnerable), then unleashes a rapid unblockable combo ending in a backflip splash.
- Do not attack. Run to the far end of the arena and hide behind a wall or pillar until it ends.
- He may also gain a grab attack — dodge sideways, never backward.
Phase 3 (Red Health Bar) — Maximum Aggression
All Phase 1 & 2 attacks return, but faster, longer, and more frequent. The wall jump remains your best damage opportunity.
- Same core principle: patience > aggression. Only attack after fully completed combos.
- He can throw you out of the arena — sprint back in immediately.
- Brute-force strategy: If you brought 80+ Grilled Meat, you can out-heal most mistakes. This is not elegant, but it works.
- Use Palmar Pills if you die here — the checkpoint is at the start of Phase 3.
🤼 Key Tips
- Dodge forward-right, always. This single tip separates winners from the frustrated.
- Don't block; dodge. His attacks break guard and drain stamina.
- Never attack mid-combo. Wait until his movement completely stops.
- Best damage windows: after body slam, wall-jump dive, or when staggered by fire.
- Heal only when safe — after jump attacks or long combos finish.
- Use the environment — walls and pillars briefly shield you during the immune combo.
