Best Controller & KBM Layouts: Optimized Keybindings for Pro Play

Master Crimson Desert's complex combat with our optimized control schemes. Best layouts for PS5/Xbox controllers and Mouse & Keyboard users.
Controls & Layouts: Optimizing Your Combat Flow
With its deep combo system and physics-based interactions, Crimson Desert requires precise inputs. While the default settings are functional, "Pro" players often adjust their bindings to ensure that critical actions—like Parrying, Dodging, and Synergy Skills—are always within reach without compromising camera control.
🎮 1. Optimized Controller Layout (PS5 / Xbox)
The biggest challenge on a controller is maintaining thumb contact with the Right Analog Stick (Camera) while attacking.
| Action | Default | Optimized (Pro) | Why? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Light Attack | R1 / RB | R1 / RB | Keep on triggers for easier "Claw" grip. |
| Heavy Attack | R2 / RT | R2 / RT | Standard for high-impact moves. |
| Dodge / Sprint | Circle / B | L1 / LB | Moving Dodge to a bumper allows you to aim your dodge with the Right Stick simultaneously. |
| Parry / Block | L1 / LB | L2 / LT | Frees up L1 for the "Synergy Modifier" button. |
| Synergy Modifier | L2 / LT | Circle / B | Quick thumb access for team combos. |
| Jump | X / A | X / A | Standard. |
⌨️ 2. Mouse & Keyboard (KBM) Optimization
KBM offers superior camera control but can feel cluttered due to the number of skills. We recommend a 5-Button Gaming Mouse.
- The "Golden Rule": Move defensive actions to your mouse to free up your left hand for movement (WASD).

⚙️ 3. Essential Control Settings
Check these toggles in the Settings > Gameplay menu for a smoother experience:
- Movement Controls (Patch 1.02.00): Choose between Basic (hold sprint to accelerate) or Classic (repeatedly press sprint to accelerate). Basic is recommended for new players; Classic matches the pre-1.02.00 feel.
- Target Lock-On Sensitivity: Set to Low. If it's too high, the camera will snap aggressively between targets in group fights.
- Automatic Camera Rotation: OFF. This prevents the game from fighting your manual camera adjustments during Boss fights.
- Quick-Time Event (QTE) Difficulty: If you find the wrestling/grappling mechanics too fast, you can set this to "Easy" for a more relaxed experience. Patch 1.00.03 also decreased QTE difficulty for arm wrestling and mount pinning.
- Headgear Visibility (Patch 1.02.00): Found in Settings > Language & Gameplay. Options: Always Show / Show in Combat / Hide in Cutscenes / Always Hide.
🛡️ 4. Handling the "Wrestling" Mechanics
Kliff's grappling system uses a lot of "Hold and Drag" motions.
- Controller: Use the Right Stick to balance your weight during a tackle.
- KBM: Use Mouse Movement rather than keys for better precision during the "Pinning" phase.
🛡️ Data Accuracy Statement
These layouts are based on pro-player feedback since the official launch and technical analysis of Pearl Abyss's input buffer system. All settings reflect the current game state including Patch 1.02.00 changes.
